RETURN OF EARNINGS – 2022
The Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) Act requires all employers to submit a declaration, known as a Return of Earnings (ROE), of annual earnings to the Compensation Fund each year. This amount combined with the category in which the business is registered will determine the amount payable by the employer to the Compensation Fund. The deadline for submitting the ROE is 31 May.
Once they have submitted their ROE, employers are issued with a Notice of Assessment. This indicates the amount owing to the Compensation Commissioner based on the salary information contained in the ROE.
Should you wish for our offices to complete the submission for you, please provide us with the following information by 15 May 2023:
- Average number of employees for the period 01 March 2022 to 28 February 2023.
- Total earnings for the period 01 March 2022 to 28 February 2023 for the following:
- Directors / members limited to R529 264 per person
- Employees limited to R529 264 per person
- Accommodation and meals
- Total estimated earnings for the period 01 March 2023 to 28 February 2024 limited to R563 520 per Director
- Total estimated earnings for the period 01 March 2023 to 28 February 2024 limited to R563 520 per employee.

Return of Earnings online system will be open for submission from 1 April 2023 to 31 May 2023.
